Tarot cards have not always been used for psychic readings. They started about 500 years ago in Northern Italy. The first tarot card decks were comprised of 52 cards with four additional queens. The rich used the deck to play a game called the Game of Triumphs. Around the 18th and 19th century, tarot cards became popular with psychics and mystics. Now tarot cards are mainly used for psychic readings.
